Open Thread: LaMarcus Aldridge brightens Thanksgiving for San Antonio community

The Spurs big man continues his tour of goodwill supporting families in time for the holiday.

On more than one occasion, LaMarcus Aldridge has expressed his gratitude for the Boys & Girls Club where he spent time as a child. As a result of his fortune in life, he gives back often.

As you may recall, LaMarcus started out this school year donating iPads to nearly 300 students at the Calderon Branch of the Boys & Girls Club in San Antonio.

Less than a month later, he took a few lucky members of that same Boys & Girls Club on a shopping spree.

Yesterday, LMA was at it again. The Spurs put out this press release:

Leading into the NBA Season of Giving, San Antonio Spurs Forward LaMarcus Aldridge will return to the Boys & Girls Club of San Antonio’s Calderon Branch to surprise 100 students and their families during a Thanksgiving Prep Party, presented by H-E-B.

Aldridge was joined by The Coyote and the Spurs Hype Squad in handing out the H-E-B holiday meal ingredients to the families from the Boys & Girls Club.

As the season changes, so does the level of confidence some families have about having food in the house. As San Antonians know, many areas of town struggle with food security. For those, the holidays, at times, can be less than inspired.

“There’s a lot of families in need everywhere, so I always try to give back and try to help the families that can use it. It was nice to come in today and to be able to help out, and I’m thankful that H. E. B. joined in and gave out the turkeys.”

LaMarcus continued, “No one gave back to me (when I was growing up), I wish someone did. I know how it feels to struggle and I have things so that’s why I always try to give back.”

When reminded of all that the San Antonio Spurs are doing in the community, Aldridge shared, “We definitely try to put our stamp on the city and the environment around us.”

Keep checking back as there are more charitable events in the works. Even if you cannot be in San Antonio, you can support the community in a variety of ways. LaMarcus is obviously a fan of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio. Pop continuously touts the San Antonio Food Bank.
