Feeding thousands of local families has led to long days for the team.
San Antonio Express-News writer Tom Orsborn has been covering the San Antonio Food Bank and their efforts to feed thousands of families in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Today, he reported that San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich spoke with the employees of the Food Bank.
ICYMI: In need of a boost after beating the odds to feed thousands of desperate families, the weary @safoodbank
received a pep talk from Pop. “He took time to cheer up the staff and tell them to keep going,” Food Bank’s Eric Cooper said. #Spurshttps://t.co/kyuQuilIf0— Tom Orsborn (@tom_orsborn) April 15, 2020
Coach Pop is a member of the advisory board to the Food Bank.
Should be noted Pop is no Johnny-come-lately to @safoodbank. He sits on its advisory board and has been deeply involved for years. “He’s always been a champion of ours,” Food Bank’s Mendy Escamilla said. “He has followed our plight even when we are not in crisis mode.” #Spurs

The staff was appreciative.
Pop’s 40 minutes on the phone with about 250 employees from @safoodbank & @nbfbtx was an “incredible boost of morale,” S.A. Food Bank director of volunteer services Mendy Escamilla said. “It felt like a halftime pep talk.” #Spurs

The Food Bank was also graced with an additional $50,000 to support their efforts.
SWBC Foundation gives $50,000 to @safoodbank to help “feed our neighbors in need” during the pandemic,” the organization said Wednesday in a release. The chairman of @SWBCServices, a S.A.-based financial services company, is #Spurs investor Charlie Amato. https://t.co/7vqCR3fZNS

Times are hard. Many are struggling without their day to day employment. But if you have the ability to donate to the San Antonio Food Bank at this time, please click here. As their site states: “Every $1 donated provides 7 meals.”
I sincerely hope you are safe and taking care during this time.
