Open Thread: Gregg Popovich and the Texas power outages

By now we all know that Gregg Popovich speaks his mind and hold no punches. Monday, he talked about the power outages that plagued (for some still plague) Texas over its abnormal wintry episode.

KENS-5 Spurs writer Tom Petrini reported that Coach Pop “says a lot of the situation in Texas was preventable but happened due to sloth, incompetence, and a lack of detail.”

Additionally, it has been reported by The Daily Beast that those who did not suffer power loss will be charged. “The market prices on the power grid spiked more than 10,000 percent on Monday in the aftermath of the deep freeze. Prices skyrocketed to more than $9,000 per megawatt-hour—compared to the pre-storm prices of less than $50 per hour.”

The outage of the Texas power grid, which left thousands without heat for days, was a failure waiting to happen. As reported by SB Nation Philadelphia Eagles site Bleeding Green Nation, “While millions of people in Texas are braving blackouts and boil notices, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is getting even richer.”

Many in the area are still suffering, and some are looking for people like Pop who will speak up for those who do not have the luxury, the wherewithal, or the megaphone.
