Norman Powell To Decline Player Option, Become Free Agent
At the trade deadline, Norman Powell was traded from the Toronto Raptors to the Portland Trail Blazers, having a ton of success all season with both teams. When the Blazers made the trade to acquire Powell, they knew there was a chance he could hit free agency just a few months later. With a player option for the 2021-22 season, he had the ability to opt out and earn much more money on the open market.
According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Norman Powell will decline his $11.6 million player option for the 21-22 season with the Trail Blazers to become a free agent.
It’s believed that Portland will make re-signing Powell a top priority this summer, but he will certainly be pursued by many teams outside of the Blazers. Either way, he’s due for a huge pay raise from whoever he ultimately signs with.
On the season, Powell averaged 18.6 points per game while knocking down 41.1 percent of his threes. One of the most underrated scorers in the league, he’s due for a payday.
