NFL Exec Reveals More About Aaron Rodgers To Raiders Rumors

The NFL offseason has not even begun yet but speculation has already begun running rampant about where Aaron Rodgers could play in the 2023 season. There have been a lot of rumors swirling that if he does opt to play for another season it will be somewhere other than with the Green Bay Packers.

His market would likely be a robust one, but there would be some hurdles to overcome in making a trade with him as the centerpiece. For starters, figuring out his contract would prove difficult for some franchises. On top of that, how much compensation will it require to land him?

The New York Jets have been mentioned as a landing spot for Aaron Rodgers as their owner, Woody Johnson, believes they are a quarterback away from truly contending. Another team that has recently been mentioned is the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Raiders are set to move on from Derek Carr this offseason, as he will either be traded or released in the days after the Super Bowl. Aaron Rodgers could be a nice replacement for him, but one executive that spoke to Mike Sando of The Athletic isn’t so sure of the fit in Las Vegas.

“Vegas would be fine for him,” the first exec said. “It just seems like a weird fit, Rodgers’ personality and Josh McDaniels. I think Josh would probably rather develop his own guy than have Rodgers, and I think he’d rather have (Jimmy) Garoppolo than Rodgers.”

As we saw in 2022 with Carr, the system that Josh McDaniels runs is not one everyone can thrive in. He struggled mightily and handpicking his quarterback is a reasonable route to take. Working with a 19-year veteran in Aaron Rodgers may not be something he wants to do.

There is no doubt that Aaron Rodgers would be able to help elevate this offense and reuniting him with Davante Adams would certainly have its perks. But, likely not a personality fit with McDaniels, it is hard to see that being a fruitful relationship. With his job potentially on the line, McDaniels will look for as perfect of a fit as possible.

It is the exact opposite reaction when linking him with the Jets. They hired Nathaniel Hackett to be their offensive coordinator after he bombed in one season as the head coach of the Denver Broncos. Hackett was the offensive coordinator for the Packers during Aaron Rodgers’ two most recent MVP seasons, so the working relationship there is one that has produced nice results.
