New Topgolf games swing into ritzy San Antonio hotels

Two of San Antonio’s top hotels are getting the virtual golf treatment with new golf simulators. The popular Topgolf Swing Suite game has swung into the Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk downtown and the JW Marriott Hill Country.

The new attraction features a slew of virtual games running on Full Swing technology, including target games, Zombie Dodgeball, hockey, baseball, football, and carnival games.

The JW Marriott’s gaming center will be located in High Velocity, the resort’s sports bar and restaurant. Players will not need a hotel room key to join in on the fun. An opening date and rates are currently unannounced.

“The addition of the Topgolf Swing Suite to High Velocity will further elevate the premier experience and atmosphere within the sports bar and provide an enhanced amenity for guests of all ages to enjoy,” says Brian Morris, the resort’s director of sales and marketing, in a news release. “Whether an experienced golfer or a family with young children wants to rent out the bay, there will be an activity or virtual game to suit everyone.”

The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa is eliminating 462 jobs — about half of its staff — effective Oct. 30 because of a sharp downturn in business due to the coronavirus pandemic. Hotels across Texas have laid off thousands of workers.

Topgolf at the Grand Hyatt features food and beverage service from the hotel libation station, Bar Rojo. The activity is now available from noon to midnight daily and costs $80 per hour, not including food and drinks. Topgolf Swing Suite happy hours will be offered with rental rates at $65 per hour on weekdays between noon and 4 p.m. Reservations are required.

“We are thrilled to partner with Topgolf Swing Suite to provide an unforgettable golf experience right here in the heart of downtown San Antonio,” says Philip Stamm, Area Vice President and general manager of Grand Hyatt San Antonio. “Whether you’re planning a fun night out on the town, grabbing an after-work meal with colleagues, hosting a celebration or event, or just looking to improve your golf game, the Topgolf Swing Suites offer a memorable activity that everyone will enjoy.”

While the packages are a bit pricey, it may be worth it to those looking to hone their skills out on the virtual green.
