NBA G League Announces Plans to Start 2020-21 Season In February

Last week, the NBA G League officially announced their plans to play their 2020-21 season at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in February; the same venue that the NBA used when they resumed the 2019-20 season.

18 teams, including 17 G League teams and the G League Ignite, will play in the G League bubble. The top eight teams will then advance to a single-elimination playoff.

Five-star high school recruits Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd and Jonathan Kuminga are among the players who will play for the Ignite — a developmental team that’s part of the G League’s program to develop elite prospects. Kai Scotto, a 7’2″ Filipino center who has been compared to Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic, is also on the Ignite.

In the bubble, NBA veterans like Michael Beasley, Jeremy Lin and Lance Stephenson will be making comeback attempts. Meanwhile, LiAngelo Ball — the brother of lottery picks Lonzo and LaMelo Ball — has also signed a G League deal as he attempts to find an NBA home.

The G League teams that aren’t heading to Lake Buena Vista includes highly-respected clubs like the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Grand Rapids Drive and Maine Red Claws.

Capitanes, a Mexico City-based team from the top Mexican pro league, was scheduled to join the G League in 2020-21 for their inaugural season. Unfortunately, that plan has been delayed due to Capitanes opting not to send players to the bubble.
