Manu Ginobili on LaMarcus Aldridge’s injury: “We are in deep trouble” if he misses time
The Spurs desperately need their top scorer to be okay if they want to make any impact on the rest of this season.
The Spurs were already in a deep hole during a rough second quarter in last night’s loss to the Washington Wizards when LaMarcus Aldridge left with what was reported as a knee contusion, and that meant their chances of coming back in that game were narrowed considerably.
If Aldridge misses any more games — as of this posting there has not been an update on his condition — some other possibilities will be narrowed considerably, like the Spurs’ playoff chances. As Manu Ginobili said following last night’s horrific performance:
“Considering the way he’s been playing and our recent success in those games, we are at the point where if LaMarcus gets a cough, a cold, we are in deep trouble,” Ginobili said. “Hopefully, it’s not serious because it’s going to be really tough to score without him and we have tough games against teams that need to win. We really need him.”
It should be a surprise to no one that without Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs are leaning heavily on Aldridge’s offensive production this season. He has the second highest usage rate of his career at 29.2% while also posting some of his most efficient shooting numbers. He has also been a big part of their top 3 defense, so without their best player the Spurs will definitely be in a world of hurt.
Aldridge is expect to get his knee examined today, and as soon as we know more about his condition we’ll let you know.
