Man City star Kevin De Bruyne names Liverpool’s Sadio Mane as his Premier League Player of the Year

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has revealed he would have voted Liverpool‘s Sadio Mane as the Premier League Player of the Year if the awards went ahead.

Jurgen Klopp’s men had built up an incredible 25-point advantage over second-place Man City in the Premier League table before the coronavirus pandemic caused fixtures to be postponed.

Liverpool have dropped points in just two of their 29 league fixtures so far this season, namely their 1-1 draw at Old Trafford and their 3-0 defeat at Watford.

The PFA awards were scheduled for this weekend but will now not take place for obvious reasons.

But De Bruyne has admitted he was in no doubt as to who he would have voted for as the top-flight’s best performer this campaign.

‘I would say Mane,’ De Bruyne said in an interview with BT Sport.

‘I think he has been the total package this year for Liverpool.

De Bruyne himself would likely have been in contention for the POTY award after another stellar campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

The Belgian has netted nine times and provided 20 assists for his team-mates in 35 matches so far this season for City.

De Bruyne was also well on course to beat Thierry Henry’s Premier League record of 20 assists in a single season, with the City playmaker currently sat on 17 with 10 games of the campaign still left for Pep Guardiola’s side.
