Leicester WILL offer defender Jonny Evans a new contract this summer

Leicester City will thrash out a new contract for Jonny Evans this summer.

The central defender, who has one year left on his current deal, has started every Premier League game this season.

Negotiations over fresh terms are pencilled in once this season ends and Brendan Rodgers appears confident of retaining the 32-year-old.

‘It’s something we’re comfortable with. He’s a brilliant player and I’ve got a really good relationship with him,’ Rodgers said.

‘It’s one that we and he will have a look at in the summer. He didn’t want anything to disrupt our game and his form. He’s clearly a player I’d love to keep.

‘He’s an outstanding player and has played at the highest level. To have that experience and quality around will be invaluable for us going forward.’

Leicester have faltered since the restart, struggling for goals during league draws against Brighton and Watford before going out of the FA Cup with defeat by Chelsea on Sunday.

The Foxes need victory when they face Everton on Wednesday night in a bid to hold off the chasing pack for Champions League qualification – although may head to Goodison Park without midfielder James Maddison.

Maddison is a doubt with a hip injury sustained last Friday. ‘It’s not too serious,’ Rodgers added. ‘He’s had an injection, had some treatment on it, and we’ll see how that looks.’
