Kawhi Leonard named to 2016-17 All-NBA First Team

For the second year in a row, the Spurs forward has been selected to the All-NBA First Team.

The league announced its 2016-17 All-NBA selections and, as many expected, Kawhi Leonard was in elite company once again.

For the second year in a row, Leonard was voted to the All-NBA First Team. He joins Russell Westbrook, James Harden, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis on the First Team. He also joins a rare group of Spurs to make consecutive appearances:

In his sixth season, Leonard posted averages of 25.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while leading the Spurs to 61 wins and the NBA’s second-best record. It’s not just that he upped his offensive production while assuming a larger role in the offense; it’s that he remained incredibly efficient while doing so, putting up shooting splits of 48.5/38.1/88 and averaging just over two turnovers a game.

“Leonard’s All-NBA honors mark the 20th consecutive season the Spurs have had a player named to an All-NBA Team. A Spur has now been named to an All-NBA Team 43 times in franchise history, which includes 21 First Team selections, 11 Second Team selections and 11 Third Team selections. The 2014 Finals MVP becomes just the fourth player in Spurs franchise history to be selected to more than one All-NBA First Team, joining George Gervin, David Robinson and Tim Duncan.”
