Juventus ‘monitoring Willian’s situation’ with Brazilian out of contract at Chelsea this summer

Juventus 'monitoring Willian's situation' with Brazilian out of contract at Chelsea this summer

Juventus are keeping a close eye on Willian’s situation between now and the end of the season as Maurizio Sarri ‘eyes a reunion’ with the Brazilian.

Tuttosport report that given the player is out of contract at Chelsea this summer, the Italian champions are ‘monitoring’ him, assessing whether they can make a financially sound deal.

Willian is currently with his family in Brazil during the lockdown for the coronavirus pandemic but with no movement on fresh terms at Chelsea as of yet, his future has got teams across Europe on notice.

The key for Juventus could prove to be the player’s pre-existing relationship with manager Sarri.

Sarri got first-hand experience of working with Willian during his season at Chelsea where he concluded by beating Arsenal in Baku to win the Europa League.

And adding weight to reports that Juventus are keeping an eye on his situation, Willian praised his former boss, only fuelling talk of a potential reunion.

Speaking to ESPN Brazil, Willian said: ‘Sarri is a good coach. I can’t tell you what happened. He had an interesting tactical part, he liked a beautiful game, with the ball.

‘Even so, he won a title, the Europa League , and third place in the Premier League. You can’t tell why it wasn’t better. He was a very calm guy on a daily basis.’

One stumbling block could be Willian’s age. Turning 32 in August, trying to secure a multi-year deal on terms of similar value to what he is on at Chelsea may prove difficult.

Willian, who has become settled in London, has a preference to remain in the Premier League but a chance to join the Turin side may prove too good to turn down should it arrive.

He came close to joining Tottenham from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013 but the move failed to materialise, with Chelsea signing him instead. During his time with the Blues, Willian has won two Premier League titles, the Europa League, the FA Cup and the League Cup.

This season Willian has made 37 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions – scoring seven goals and adding six assists.
