Summer league standout Jonathan Simmons has all the physical tools to become a good 3 and D player the Spurs could use off the bench. The Spurs obviously see the athletic potential in Jonathan Simmons and could use his talents. On the flip side you have Jimmer Fredette a former college star from BYU who has not lived up to the hype. Jimmer Fredette has not been impressive in his NBA career but he does have experience and is a good 3 point shooter. The Spurs have a tough decision as they only carry 14 players on their current roster. Who do you pick to fill that final roster spot Jonathan Simmons or Jimmer Fredette? It would appear that both players will be fighting for that final roster spot when training camp starts. The Spurs have learned that carrying 15 players is actually a smart move just in case they have an unexpected injury. But it’s hard to imagine that Jimmer Fredette will outplay both Jonathan Simmons and Reggie Williams in training camp. It will be interesting to see what Jimmer Fredette does with this opportunity and only time will tell, how his career will progress from here.
