John Terry auctions memorabilia collection to raise £250,000 for the NHS and Make-A-Wish Foundation

John Terry has put 12 items from his football memorabilia collection up for auction in a bid to raise £250,000 for the NHS and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. 

The Aston Villa assistant manager set up a Just Giving page with the ambition of raising a quarter of a million for Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and the children’s charity, which reached £196,000 by 1pm on Friday.

Now the former Chelsea captain has opened an eBay auction offering match-worn pieces collected during his professional career, including a host of AC Milan legends and a shirt worn by Argentina legend Diego Maradona.

Listed shirts include the defender’s signed Blues top from the 2015-16 season, with the highest bid currently standing at £4,100. 

Other Chelsea souvenirs made available include Terry’s and Frank Lampard’s third shirts from the 2006-07 campaign, with bids in excess of £1,000 being placed for those two pieces. 

A Didier Drogba shirt has been put up for sale, as has Terry’s signed Premier League captain’s armband, and fans are fighting to get their hands on the limited edition possessions.

Speaking about the auction this week, Terry told Sky Sports: ‘I was sitting there being inspired by what Joe Cole was doing. I wanted to make a real difference.  

‘I’ve been an ambassador for Make-A-Wish for 15 odd years now and it’s close to my heart. 

‘I want to raise as much money as I possibly can for the NHS and Make-A-Wish. 

‘The response has been incredible, and in less than four days we’ve raised £190.000. The response of the nation has been incredible and I’m really proud of that.’

Terry’s esteemed career saw him face some of the game’s finest players, leading him to possess a remarkable collection of framed jerseys, as well as he ones he traded on the pitch and in changing rooms.

Along with Cafu, Terry listed the framed AC Milan shirts of Oliver Bierhoff and Zvonimir Boban

Along with shirts from Chelsea team-mates, collectors scanning Terry’s eBay page will be enticed by two famous No 10 shirts. 

They are Diego Maradona’s signed and framed Argentina shirt and Michael Owen’s signed England top worn against Brazil at the 2002 World Cup. 

For those of an AC Milan persuasion, Cafu, Oliver Bierhoff and Zvonimir Boban jerseys are also up for auction.

All three jerseys are secured in wooden frames with Bierhoff’s No 20 jersey complete with the player’s signature.
