Jaguars hire former 49ers exec Ethan Waugh as new assistant GM

The Jacksonville Jaguars continue their rebuild toward a better season, hiring former San Francisco 49ers executive Ethan Waugh as their new assistant general manager.

It’s a reunion for Waugh and general manager Trent Baalke, who worked together in San Francisco for nearly a decade.

Adding Waugh is the latest move Jacksonville has made to rebuild itself after a disastrous 2021 season. In addition to rebuilding the team so it wins more than two games a season, the Jaguars are also retooling their front office in an effort to improve the overall culture.

The Jaguars still have work to do to distance themselves from the fallout of last season brought on primarily by former head coach Urban Meyer. Meyer’s antics both on and off the field resulted in him being fired before the 2021 season was over — not even a full year after he had been hired.
