Inter Milan chief Javier Zanetti is unsure whether Mauro Icardi still has a future at the San Siro

Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti has admitted that he doesn’t think Mauro Icardi has a future at the club.

The 27-year-old was shipped out on loan to Paris Saint-Germain last summer following a huge falling out with the club.

That hasn’t deterred Icardi, though, who has hit the ground running at the Parc des Princes where he has scored 17 goals in 26 Ligue 1 appearances for the French champions.

Recent reports have suggested that PSG will likely now make that deal permanent should Icardi agree to leave Italy.

However, Icardi’s wife and agent, Wanda Nara, reportedly told PSG that they intend to return to Italy which would see him end back up at Inter.

But when asked about the possibility, Zanetti does not see that as a possibility.

‘I don’t know, I don’t think so,’ Zanetti told ESPN.

‘But right now we’re not talking about the transfer market, the most important thing is health. Then we’ll have time to think about it.’

Meanwhile, Zanetti believes Icardi’s compatriot Lautaro Martinez is ‘happy’ at the club and is confident they can keep hold of the striker.

Martinez is one of the hottest commodities in Europe and is also attracting the attention of Manchester City and Chelsea, who look set to battle it out with Barcelona for his services.

The 22-year-old arrived in Milan just two years ago from Argentine side Racing Club and still has three years left on his current deal with Inter.

However, after bagging 16 goals so far this campaign, Martinez has caught Barcelona’s eye who see him as Luis Suarez’s long-term successor at the Nou Camp.

‘At Inter I see him happy, he identifies with the club,’ Zanetti added.

‘We believed in him. I see his future at Inter.’
