Independiente ‘ramping up efforts to bring Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero back’

Manchester City face an uphill task to keep Sergio Aguero at the cub with Argentine club Independiente desperate to bring him home.

Aguero started his successful career at Independiente and has not hidden his desire to return there one day.

According to reports in South America, as reported by The Mirror, Independiente are now ‘ramping up their efforts’ to bring Aguero home.

It is claimed the seven-times Copa Libertadores have even launched ‘Operation Aguero’ as they do all they can to re-sign the 31-year-old.

The former Atletico Madrid star is contracted at City until 2021 and the reigning Premier League champions are unlikely to let their prized asset go without a huge fee before then.

But Independiente coach Lucas Pusineri has made it clear he wants to take Aguero back to Buenos Aires this summer.

Pusineri wants to reunite the 31-year-old striker, who has just over a year left on his contract at the Etihad, with AC Milan midfielder Lucas Biglia.

Former midfielder Pusineri played with Pusineri and Aguero during his two spells at the Argentine club between 2003 and 2006.

He recently said: ‘I have a nice relationship with Biglia and Kun Aguero.

‘We were teammates – and I have a lot of respect for their careers in Argentina and Europe.

‘It would be nice if to have them tomorrow. In the future, I am hopeful that I will be able to count on them.’

Aguero has scored 254 goals in 368 appearances for Manchester City since joining from Atletico in the summer of 2011.
