Ilkay Gundogan says ‘world-class’ Wolves striker Raul Jimenez is good enough for Manchester City

Ilkay Gundogan has hailed Wolves striker Raul Jimenez as ‘world class’ and says he’s good enough to play for Manchester City.

City are reportedly on the look out for a long term replacement for Sergio Aguero, who turns 32 in June and out of contract in 2021. 

Jimenez has been touted as a potential candidate to fill Aguero’s goalscoring boots and Gundogan believes he would be the perfect addition to City’s squad.

He told ESPN: ‘For a striker he is so mobile, but also physically so good and talented technically on the ball. I can imagine him playing with us.’

Jimenez moved to Wolves on a permanent deal last summer having spent the previous 12 months on loan at the club from Benfica. 

The Mexican has enjoyed another brilliant season at Molineux, scoring 22 goals and making 10 assists in 44 games in all competitions.  

The 28-year-old’s combination of physical and technical quality has impressed Gundogan, who has compared him to one of Europe’s greatest strikers.

‘Maybe [he’s] not on that level yet, but he reminds me a little bit of [Robert] Lewandowski because I’ve played with him. In terms of style I think there is still a lot of potential.

Jimenez is reportedly on the radar of Manchester United and Real Madrid this summer

‘It’s so difficult to predict but I think [Jimenez] would get a chance in every single top-six team and there’s a good possibility he could do well.’

If City do make a move for Jimenez this summer he is likely to cost significantly more than the £30million Wolves paid to sign him on a four-year deal last April.

They are also likely to face competition from a number of clubs, including rivals Manchester United, who have been credited with an interest in the striker.
