‘I was in shock’: Local woman gives her H-E-B groceries to Favor delivery runner

A Favor delivery runner received a “generous” gift from one of his customers last Friday.

Luis Semidey said he was picking up a curbside order from the H-E-B located at the intersection of Babcock and Huebner roads for a customer on Favor. As usual, Semidey texted his customer he was on his way to deliver her groceries. However, the woman’s return message was surprising.

“Hello Luis, this food is for you,” the woman wrote in her text to Semidey. “I appreciate your work during these tough times! I hope you enjoy it and stay safe!”

At first, the local Favor runner said he didn’t believe the customer wanted him to keep her groceries and text her again, saying “Wait…the groceries are for me?” She responded back with a “yes” and Semidey said he had to pull over his car to take in the “small act of kindness.”

“I’ve had customers leave some small snacks at their door or give a nice tip, but this has never happened to me before,” he said. “I was in shock.”

Semidey posted about his experience on his Facebook page, uploading a picture of the groceries and a snapshot of the text message exchange. The post has received more than 9,000 shares and around 8,000 likes as of Wednesday morning.

Semidey said the groceries weren’t a trunk full, but “appreciates” that the customer thought of him during this time. The groceries included items such as pizza, milk and tortillas. Semidey said he didn’t know the total cost of the groceries because it was pre-paid order.

“This pandemic is really bringing out the best in some people,” he said. “It was really awesome and generous. I wish she was the one getting the recognition because she is inspiring other people to do the same thing for their Favor runners.

“If you can bless someone during this time, do so because small acts of kindness like this can have a much bigger impact than people think”

H-E-B has teamed up with Favor during the pandemic to deliver groceries to seniors.
