“His Management Told Us…” City And Arsenal On Alert As Sporting Director Reveals Swiss Star’s Summer Exit Plan

Borussia Monchengladbach’s sporting director Max Eberl has said that Denis Zakaria’s representatives have made it clear he wants to leave the Bundesliga club this summer.

The Swiss international has less than a year left on his contract with the German side, and despite repeatedly trying to extend his current deal, Eberl says they have had no luck:

“With Denis, we have been trying to extend his contract since October. Denis and his management told us pretty clearly that they would prefer a transfer this summer.”

It means that Zakaria will almost certainly be available for a low price before the transfer window closes. Reports in England suggest both Manchester City and Arsenal are interested in the 24-year-old but we shall see if either team makes an official approach.

The midfielder has been a long-term target for the Citizens but he has struggled for form since picking up a knee injury last year. He did not play much of a part as Switzerland reached the quarter-finals of the European Championships earlier this month.

Perhaps, if he isn’t sold, and he has a strong final season with Gladbach, he could be picked up on a free transfer by City next summer.
