Heynckes Questions City Star’s Valuation Amid Reports Of Possible £61m Approach

Jupp Heynckes has questioned Manchester City winger Leroy Sane’s ability and price tag amid rumours he could leave the Etihad for Bayern Munich this summer.

It has been reported in the German media that Bayern are prepared to pay between €60m (£53m) and €70m (£61m) for the 24-year-old, but Heynckes doesn’t believe he is worth that much:

“For me, he has not yet made a breakthrough to becoming an absolute top player. I think this is a player at a crossroads. Will he keep working hard on himself or will he remain just as an exceptional talent?”

“He has to be ready to make the next big step because there is no use in flashing the talent from time to time. I also honestly tell you that I don’t consider the price justifiable.”

Sane has scored 39 goals and provided 45 assists in 134 appearances for City since his arrival from Schalke in 2016. It’s hardly a poor record and Heynckes’ remarks suggest he hasn’t seen a lot of the player playing in England.

The winger’s attitude has been criticised when playing for the German national side, and that may be where the ex Bayern boss has formed his opinion of him.

In any case, Heynckes’ opinion isn’t shared by Bayern themselves, who seem determined to land Sane when the transfer window reopens. Fans will be hoping the German signs a new contract instead.
