Heavy playing time is wearing down Danny Green and Boris Diaw.

This season for the San Antonio Spurs can best be summed up in one word “injuries” as the team has been plagued by the injury bug since starting the regular season. With so many star players suffering from various injuries Coach Pop had to rely on extended play from both Danny Green and Boris Diaw, who are averaging just under 30 minutes a night.  This is followed by Tim Duncan’s 1,244 minutes played so far this season and the 38 year old power forward is due some downtime if the Spurs plan on going deep into the playoffs.  When asked about the teams extended playing time this season Danny Green replied as follows: “Right now is the healthiest we’ve been,” Green said. “There are times we could have sat some guys, but we couldn’t afford it. If you were healthy enough to play, you had to play.”  The bottom line is we all have to trust in Coach Pop and believe the law of averages will work in the Spurs favor, as the road to the finals will be the toughest as it has ever been for the Silver and Black. With younger teams such at the Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies looming on the horizon, only time will tell if the aging Spurs can keep pace with the young guns of the Western Conference.
