Hating on Joffrey Lauvergne will get you nowhere

The French big man has attributes worth noting.

He’s not the greatest Spur of all time, but Joffrey Lauvergne does not deserve all the shade that gets thrown his way. In 6 minutes 11 seconds in the Spurs loss against the Atlanta Hawks, San Antonio’s “other” Frenchman went 1 for 2 on the hardwood and from the charity stripe scoring 3 points. He also pulled down an offensive board and made 3 assists. I’m not saying he needs to send Emmanuel Macron a postcard or anything, but check out two of the assists:

and this one in the last two minutes of the 3rd quarter.

This guy can pass. And he obviously has a rapport with Dejounte Murray.

And I don’t know if it’s me, but every time he makes a basket and the camera follows him heading back on defense, he is adjusting that finger that got dislocated and is still splinted. He has yet to fully recover his shooting hand.

Either way, he has some attributes that can be honed. He doesn’t get a lot of playing time and that will probably only continue as the starters get healthy. His best course of action is to keep getting time working on his shot with Chip Engelland. If he could stretch the floor along with his tight passing and athletic rebounding abilities, Lauvergne could be a strong asset going forward.

That’s my opinion. be sure and add yours in the comments below.

By the way, THANK YOU for all the feedback on Manu. I will be continuing to collect his best moments, photos, and highlights as I work on his piece. I am especially grateful to those of you who have responded through email. Your shares have been amazing and it’s obvious #20 has touched fans in a way very few players have. He’s truly unique.
