Tottenham would have finished 17th without Harry Kane’s goals with only Manchester City sensation Erling Haaland matching the England captain for influence this season.

Kane scored 30 league goals in 2022-23, earning Spurs 24 points and vastly improving their league placing to eighth.

Without his interventions, the team would have collected 34 points instead of 60, putting them just above the relegation zone.

Haaland, signed from Borussia Dortmund for £51million last summer, has proved a revelation and his 36 league goals won City 24 points.

Pep Guardiola’s team were crowned champions for the third consecutive season but would have come only sixth without Haaland’s influence.

Ivan Toney’s 20 goals earned Brentford 16 points, underlining how much he will be missed in the first half of next season as he serves an eight-month ban for breaching betting rules.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah earned his team 15 points, while Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi won them 13 points with his 10 strikes, the difference between staying up and going down.

The stats show how important Bruno Fernandes is to Man United, with his eight goals adding 11 points to the points total of Erik ten Hag’s team.

Of course, the figures place greater weight on goals that proved to be match-winners in tight games or equalisers that earned a point.

Kane proved decisive in a number of games though it didn’t really add much gloss in a hugely disappointing season for Tottenham.

They missed out on European football after sacking Antonio Conte following an animated rant about the state of the club following the 3-3 draw at Southampton in March.

Interim boss Cristian Stellini was also dispensed with following poor results, meaning Ryan Mason ended the season in the dug-out as chairman Daniel Levy sets out on another manager hunt.

Kane is expected to leave this summer and Spurs will miss his match-winning qualities.

He scored the only goals of the game in wins over Fulham and Manchester City at the beginning of the year, and proved the different against Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Crystal Palace.

Haaland smashed the record for the most number of goals in a Premier League season with his 36, playing a vital role in City’s pursuit of a league, FA Cup and Champions League Treble.

While plenty of Haaland’s goals came in comfortable City wins, the Norwegian also popped up with some crucial winners, including against Fulham in November and Crystal Palace in March.

Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic and Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace both won their sides 11 points in all, with Newcastle’s Alexander Isak also in double figures on 10.

The seven goals of Philip Billing earned Bournemouth nine points and enabled them to beat the drop.

A trio of Arsenal players – Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli – each earned their team eight points as they came so close to winning the title.
