Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson lobbies for Rams to sign Todd Gurley

Todd Gurley appears to be struggling to find a job this offseason as he remains a free agent with less than two months remaining before the 2021 NFL season begins.

With a job open in Los Angeles, could Gurley return to the Rams? Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson believes the Rams shouldn’t be wasting any time in contacting the two-time All-Pro, who began his career with the franchise in 2015.

“That’s a no-brainer,” Dickerson said of the Rams potentially re-signing Gurley, according to TMZ Sports. “I mean, he knows the offense, he knows this offense. He doesn’t have to come in and try and learn it.

“He knows [Sean] McVay, he knows the guys on the team — that would be an easy fit.”

The Rams have an urgent need in the backfield after Cam Akers suffered a devastating season-ending Achilles injury earlier this week while working out.

While L.A. still has Darrell Henderson Jr., it’s possible the club is looking for another running back, and someone like Gurley could be a solid fit. His familiarity with McVay’s system could be an asset for the Rams if they bring him home.

Since putting up 1,251 rushing yards with the Rams in 2018, Gurley hasn’t been able to reach the 1,000-yard mark. In 15 games with the Atlanta Falcons last season, he ran for 678 yards and nine touchdowns.
