On Thursday, Gov. Greg Abbott tested negative for COVID-19 – one day after a Florida official, who met with the Texas lawmaker on Saturday at the border, announced she tested positive.

Abbott’s spokeswoman Renae Eze told the Dallas Morning News the governor was tested Thursday morning and received a negative result. She says Abbott, who is vaccinated, will continue to test for the next three days out of an abundance of caution.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody announced via Twitter Wednesday that she tested positive for COVID-19. Moody says she received a COVID-19 vaccine earlier this year and is experiencing mild symptoms.

The news came four days after Abbott met with several representatives from Florida, including Moody and Governor of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, for a border security briefing in Del Rio on Saturday.

The two were also joined by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and other Texas border security members. MySA.com has reached out to Paxton’s office to learn whether the AG has taken a COVID-19 test. His office has not responded as of Friday morning.

The Texas Department of State Health Services reported 6,417 new cases on Thursday. According to the Dallas Morning News, the department’s spokesman Chris Van Deusen says Bexar County’s reporting of a weekly total of 1,800 confirmed cases made Thursday’s total “a little bit higher” than the daily trend had been showing.
