Girl shot and killed in Balcones Heights

A 16-year-old girl was shot in the head and killed early Sunday at a Balcones Heights apartment complex, and two men were arrested and are being held in connection with the slaying, police said.

Eric Hernandez, 21, and Kevin Clark, 18, each were charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, possession of marijuana and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, said Balcones Heights Police Chief John Jahanara.

Another person of interest in the shooting, also male, remained at large on Sunday.

Police were responding to an alarm call around 4 a.m. at a Planet Fitness in the 400 block of Fredericksburg Road when they heard multiple gunshots at a nearby apartment complex. As officers entered The Rise complex, the two suspects were exiting toward them in a vehicle at high speed, Jahanara said.

The officers ordered the men from the vehicle at gunpoint and took them into custody.

The victim, a San Antonio resident, “had been staying there with family that resides there on location,” Jahanara said. “It seems like there was some sort of gun exchange. We’re looking at maybe a possible drug deal.”

Guns and marijuana were found in the vehicle, Jahanara said.
