Celtic are bringing in Gary Penrice as their new head of recruitment.

The 56-year old former QPR and Bristol Rovers striker previously worked with Celtic head of football operations Nicky Hammond when the pair were at West Bromwich Albion.

Hammond had been tasked with overhauling Celtic’s recruitment operation following the departure of Lee Congerton to Leicester City last year.

Penrice fronts a strong group assembled by Hammond, who had also brought in Jay Lefevre from Arsenal as head of scouting operations, while Mick Doherty, formerly of Everton and Chelsea, was already in place as senior international and UK scout.

Penrice has also worked with Everton, Leicester, Stoke, QPR and Wigan as a scout and consultant.
