An Army soldier assigned to Fort Bliss was found dead while on holiday leave near San Antonio, officials said.

Pfc. Nylyn Eady, 19, was found dead by emergency personnel in the city of Converse on Monday.

“The Ready First family mourns the loss of our friend, teammate, and fellow soldier, Pfc. Eady,” Col. Stephen A. Fairless, commander of the First Armored Brigade Combat Team, said in a statement. “He served his Nation with dignity and respect; we will honor his service and his memory.”

A Maryland native, Eady was an intelligence analyst who joined the Army in July 2019. He arrived at Fort Bliss, an El Paso post, in April 2020 after completing basic training. His awards include the National Defense Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Eady was pronounced dead at 11:32 p.m. Monday, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause and manner of death were not available.

The Converse Police Department has jurisdiction over the case, Army officials said.

Eady was the second Fort Bliss soldier found dead in recent days. Pfc. Asia Graham, 19, of Cherryville, N.C., was found unresponsive in her barracks and pronounced dead by emergency personnel on New Year’s Eve.

On New Year’s Day, San Antonio police found another soldier, Staff Sergeant Jessica Mitchell, shot in a stalled vehicle on Interstate 10.

Mitchell, assigned to JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, died at University Hospital.
