Former No. 1 pick an option for Buccaneers as Brady replacement

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to bring in a veteran quarterback this offseason as they look to replace NFL legend Tom Brady. A former top overall pick could be an option.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Bucs and San Francisco 49ers are the two teams that have come up most often as potential suitors for former Browns, Panthers and Rams signal-caller Baker Mayfield.

This past season, his first in Carolina, Mayfield started six games while posting a forgettable 6/6 TD/INT ratio. He lost his job to injury and poor performance before being waived and claimed by the Los Angeles Rams.

Mayfield looked better in his brief time with the Rams, most notably earning NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading L.A. to an incredible comeback win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

The 27-year-old Mayfield may have earned himself another opportunity at a starting job after playing his way back toward vague respectability with the Rams.
