‘Fell out of the sky’: Tik Tok video shows HPD chopper plummeting to the ground

The heartbreaking moment when an HPD helicopter fell to the ground, killing a flight officer was captured on Tik Tok video by Houston resident Jauan Kenney early Saturday.

“Oh my God, that helicopter just fell out of the sky,” Kenney screamed. “Am I seriously awake? No!”

Kenney began shooting the Tik Tok video when the chopper began spinning before his eyes and fell to the ground in a north Houston neighborhood.

“Whoa. Whoa. Whoa! Wait. Wait Stop. No. NO!” Kenney cried.

HPD Officer Jason Knox died in the crash around 2 a.m. Saturday. Knox and another pilot were responding to reports of bodies floating in the bayou in HPD’s Fox 75.  The chopper then crashed into the Biscayne Apartments’ clubhouse in the 17000 block of Imperial Valley.

Jose Salazar posted this video on Facebook of the chaotic scene after the chopper careened into the apartment clubhouse.

The co-pilot, now identified as Chase Cormier, is in critical condition, after undergoing surgery at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Knox left behind a wife and two children.

HPD is asking Houstonians to send their prayers to the families of Knox and Cormier.
