Everyone contributes in the Spurs’ team effort to put away the Magic

So far, the San Antonio Spurs are passing the most difficult week of the season with flying colors, including taking care of business and putting the rebuilding Orlando Magic away early in emphatic fashion. The Spurs needed a few minutes to get their feet underneath them, but once they did there was no stopping them as they kept their foot on the pedal throughout and never looked back on their way to a 120-97 win that wasn’t really that close.

Dejounte Murray started things off the same way he did in Dallas: with a three to get himself in an early rhythm.

The Spurs had trouble scoring for a few minutes from there in what would be their only slow stretch of the game, but Keldon Johnson helped get them back on track and trigger an 18-0 run with a block on one end and coast-to-coast drive the other way for the layup, and Lonnie Walker — who just might be the X-factor the Spurs were missing during their extended slump — really got the blowout rolling with 8 straight points after entering the game.

Even Patty Mills briefly broke out of his extended shooting slump to hit 2-3 threes on the night. The Spurs definitely need him to find his form again, so maybe this will help.

In case the Magic were getting any ideas that the Spurs would get complacent and let them creep back into this one in the second half, DeMar DeRozan used a strong third quarter to squash any hope.

Drew Eubanks notched his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, more than one of which came in the form of put-back-slams.

Luka Samanic finally got some burn thanks to extended garbage time and once again showed his potential as a mismatched nightmare for opposing defenses with a confident three and two drives to the rim from beyond the Arc.

Last but not least, the Spurs may not be Lob City — in fact they tend to be victims of lobs more often than not — but rookies Tre Jones and Devin Vassell connect for the alley-oop to put a feather on a satisfying and comfortable win for the Spurs that included everyone available player both playing and scoring.

Bonus: Here’s a stat you may find hard to believe last last night’s victory over the Magic, combined with Sunday’s win in Dallas, marked the first time the Spurs have won both games of a road back-to-back since — wait for it — 2016. November to be precise, back when Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge was still around the team was a title contender. Those were the days.
