Eagles coach Nick Sirianni is a low-key fan of 49ers’ Brock Purdy

Although he’ll be rooting against him in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni is otherwise a fan of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

A college roommate of Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell, who coached Purdy from 2018-2021, Sirianni recently told NBC Sports Philadelphia that when he’s not matched up against Purdy, he enjoys watching the protégé of his close friend succeed.

“Every game that Brock Purdy plays well in, I think that’s good for recruiting at Iowa State,” Sirianni said, per NBC Sports’ Reuben Frank. “… If the Eagles play well, how does that help Iowa State? It doesn’t. But if Purdy plays well, it’s going to help [Campbell].”

In four years at Iowa State, Purdy threw for 12,170 yards, 81 touchdowns and 33 interceptions. He led the Cyclones to a 30-17 record, was a two-time All-Big 12 first-team selection and broke 32 school records.

“He’s a winner,” Sirianni said of Purdy. “… But you saw what he did for that program. Matt is obviously a great head coach, but he got a great quarterback in Brock Purdy, and you saw what he did for that program. And all the things he did for them. I (would) check the score, Purdy had an awesome game, and they won again. That’s what I notice with him, that he’s a winner.”

Purdy is 7-0 as the 49ers starting quarterback, including two playoff wins over the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles host the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game Sunday at 3 p.m. ET at Lincoln Financial Field.
