Davante Adams on Patrick Surtain II after game-winning TD: ‘He’s not there yet’

Davante Adams called “game” in overtime Sunday, leading the Las Vegas Raiders to a 22-16 overtime win over the Denver Broncos with a walk-off touchdown catch.

It was the play of the game and potentially the play of the season for the Raiders, who are still only 3-7 after the win. Adams’ performance as a whole, though, was reminiscent of his time in Green Bay, where he ascended to the top of the NFL wide receiver rankings thanks to an otherworldly connection with four-time MVP and future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.

Adams was unstoppable in his final seasons in Green Bay, and he was unstoppable against the Broncos. He caught seven passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 20.1 yards per catch.

Much of Adams’ damage came against young cornerback Patrick Surtain II, who the Broncos took with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Surtain’s father, Patrick Surtain, was a three-time Pro Bowler and all indications regarding Pat Surtain II suggest that he’s going to be a heck of an NFL corner for years to come.

He didn’t have it against the Raiders, though, and he specifically didn’t have it against Adams. That’s a fact Adams let the young cornerback know loud and clear after the game-winner. No, Adams didn’t say anything to Surtain II’s face, but he let the NFL world know that the Alabama product isn’t yet ready to lock down a wide receiver of his stature.

“He too young. He ain’t there yet,” Adams screamed. “He’s not there yet.”
