Damian Lillard and Draymond Green commit to Team USA for the Tokyo Olympics

Damian Lillard and Draymond Green have committed to play for Team USA at the rescheduled 2020 Summer Olympics Games, per a report from Senior NBA Insider Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Although this is the first time Lillard will represent the United States at the Olympics, Green was a part of the 2016 Team USA roster that went a perfect 8-0 on their way to a gold medal in Rio de Janeiro.

This All-Star duo should reinforce head coach Gregg Popovich’s rotation as Team USA attempts to make amends for their disappointing seventh-place finish at the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.

Lillard and Green were among the 57 Olympic finalists announced in mid-March for the yet-to-be-determined official 12-man United States roster that will travel to Tokyo late next month.

The San Antonio Spurs could see a couple of their players suit up for coach Pop and Team USA this summer as guards DeMar DeRozan and Derrick White were also among the finalists.

DeMar DeRozan won gold with the United States at the 2016 Olympics and 2014 FIBA World Cup, and Derrick White beat out several household names to earn a spot on the 2019 FIBA World Cup roster.

The final roster for Team USA will likely be set by late June, with training camp kicking off in Las Vegas on July 6 before the opening ceremony for the 2020 Olympics begins on July 23.

The group stages will run from July 25 to August 1, followed by the knockout rounds from August 3 to August 7. The United States has taken home gold in each of the past three Olympic Games.
