Confused England fans can’t work out what Jack Grealish calls the Three Lions

‘He definitely says VEG!’: Confused England fans can’t work out whether Jack Grealish calls the Three Lions the best thing since ‘sliced bread’ or ‘sliced veg’ as the Man City star laughs off criticism after their drab draw with USA

Fans are left confused as they can’t work out if Jack Grealish calls England ‘best thing since sliced veg’ when he laughed off criticism over their goalless draw with USA.

The Manchester City star insisted there was an ‘overreaction’ to their second group-stage match, especially considering they run out 6-2 winners against Iran in their 2022 World Cup opener.

The Three Lions have all but ensured their place in the knock-out stages barring a disaster against Wales later this evening.

Fans, however, have flooded to social media to question whether the Manchester City star said sliced veg or sliced bread in his interview.

One fan said: ‘He definitely says ‘best thing since sliced veg’ I can’t unhear that now.

A second agreed: ‘Defo said sliced veg and that’s what we should all say from now on.

A third posted: ‘Best thing since sliced veg.’

A fourth tweeted: ‘I desperately want it to be true that he actually says ‘the best thing since sliced veg’ here, but I can’t prove it, so best to let it lie.

Another added: ‘God I love this bloke more and more every day.’

The reaction came after confusion over what Grealish actually said during his TalkSport interview.

‘I think there was a big overreaction. I think we’re still apart from Spain, the top scorers in the tournament maybe,’ Grealish told TalkSport.

‘I can’t think off the top of my head if there is anyone that has scored more than six.

‘The other day against Iran we were the best thing since sliced bread/veg, scoring six goals and then we go a game without scoring.

‘I think there was a bit of an overreaction, but that’s what you get sometimes, playing for England.’

Grealish also defended manager Gareth Southgate’s decision to not start Phil Foden or even bring him off the bench in the draw with USA on Friday evening.

‘With the Phil thing, we all know how good Phil is, but there is a lot of players in them forward positions that all bring different stuff, different attributes, and I’m sure Phil will get his chance.

‘Hopefully he does, he’s been training well, but it’s up to the manager. He does have options in them attacking positions.’
