City And United ‘Formally Asked’ Agent About The Chances Of Signing 28 Year Old Defender

Manchester City and Manchester United have “formally asked” the agent of Bayern Munich defender David Alaba about the player’s interest in moving to England, according to AS.

The Madrid based publication claims the two Manchester clubs have talked to Pini Zahavi regarding the 28-year-old, although there is also interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

Real, in particular, are thought to be keen on Alaba, as they seek a possible replacement for Sergio Ramos, but the defender is said to be demanding a salary of around €12m a year (roughly £210,000 a week), which would price out the La Liga champions.

That means City would very much still be in the race to sign the Austrian international on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer. Manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly looking to strengthen his options at left-back and the Bayern star could be the perfect candidate.
