Bryn Forbes signs two-year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks

Former Spurs guard Bryn Forbes has signed a two-year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The exact details of the deal have yet to be announced, but the second year is reportedly a player-option. It was all but inevitable that Forbes wouldn’t be back next season due to the Spurs’ plethora of higher-ceiling guards, and he didn’t always receive much love from fans because of it, but that doesn’t mean his time with the Spurs shouldn’t be fondly remembered.

Undrafted out of Michigan State in 2016, the Spurs signed Forbes to their Summer League squad, where he earned a guaranteed contract and eventually proved to be a legit NBA player. He was a typical Spurs feel-good story but was soon thrust into a starting role to begin the 2017-18 season with the Spurs shorthanded due to injury (among other things) and in need of some spacing and outside shooting in the starting unit.

While Forbes held on to that starting role for three seasons — averaging 8.9 points on 40% three-point shooting during his career here — his size made him a defensive liability, and the Bubble showed that the Spurs younger guards were ready for bigger roles. Regardless, his name is still etched in the Spurs record books. Not only is he one of just three Spurs to hit 250 threes in his first three years with the team, but just this last January set the franchise record for most threes made in a half with seven against the Phoenix Suns.

Say what you will about Forbes as a starter, but one thing he can never be accused of is not giving his all. He gave 110 percent every moment he was on the court, and any grievances about his fit or role with the team is not his fault. Hopefully he finds the right role and gets a chance to contend for a championship with the Bucks going forward.
