Brendan Rodgers: I will ignore table until there are five games to go

Brendan Rodgers has vowed to ignore the Premier League table until there are only five games to play — even if they beat Fulham to move level on points with leaders Tottenham and Liverpool.

The Foxes’ fine start to the campaign has some fans talking of a repeat of their remarkable 2016 title triumph, but as they prepare to take on Scott Parker’s strugglers, Rodgers is ignoring it.

He said: ‘When you have experience, you know it’s about getting to the last five games.

‘The start of the season has been so busy. I’m enjoying seeing players adapt and work in the Premier League and Europe. Our thinking is to develop the players, improving their tactical ideas and mindset so we can consistently challenge at the top end of the table.’

Rodgers is likely to name the same squad who drew 3-3 at Braga last week to seal qualification to the knockout stages of the Europa League with two games to spare.

That may allow him to use Ricardo Pereira, Wilfred Ndidi and Caglar Soyuncu against Zorya Luhansk on Thursday as the trio work to gain full fitness.
