Bradley Beal commits to Team USA for the Tokyo Olympics

Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal has committed to play for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics this Summer, per a report from Senior NBA Insider Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Beal now joins a formidable trio of Damian Lillard, Draymond Green, and Jayson Tatum as the first players to commit to the United States Men’s National Basketball Team for the rescheduled 2020 Summer Olympics.

The three-time NBA All-Star was one of the 57 finalists announced for Team USA’s 12-man roster. And this announcement presumably leaves eight spots to fill before they travel to Tokyo next month.

Although Beal has never represented the United States at the Olympics, he won MVP at the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship, where he led Team USA to a perfect 8-0 record on their way to a gold medal.

The former third overall pick continued establishing himself as one of the league’s most dangerous scorers this season, posting a career-high 31.3 points per game while being named to the All-NBA Third Team.

The superstar swingman averaged 38 points per game across two regular-season tilts with the San Antonio Spurs. And he should bring a surplus of firepower to Gregg Popovich’s rotation come July.

The United States has secured the gold medal in six of the past seven Summer Olympics, and the Red, White, and Blue will likely be frontrunners once again after adding another transcendent offensive talent.

Team USA will begin training camp in Las Vegas on July 6 before heading to Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics. The group stages will run from July 25 to August 1, followed by the knockout rounds from August 3 to August 7.
