BCSO investigating deputy accused of pulling over cars while off duty

A Bexar County deputy is accused of making two traffic stops overnight while off duty, officials said Wednesday.

The deputy was detained by a Northside ISD police officer who said he watched him make the stops. The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident, according to a statement.

At around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Northside ISD officer said he witnessed the BCSO deputy pull two cars over on Culebra Road between Loop 410 and Reed Road, the statement said. The officer made contact with the deputy on a nearby street.

The deputy, an 18-year veteran assigned to court security, was driving a white Chevy Tahoe that did not have any official BCSO decals.

The Northside ISD officer asked which agency the deputy worked for and whether or not he was on duty. The officer became suspicious of the deputy, officials said, and detained him until a BSCO patrol supervisor arrived to identify him.

The sheriff’s office took over the incident and launched an investigation. The deputy was released pending a separate administrative investigation by the office’s internal affairs and public integrity units.

A Northside ISD spokesperson issued the following statement:

“A Northside ISD Police Officer observed another law enforcement agency vehicle engaged in what appeared to be traffic stops on or near Culebra Rd. The NISD Police Officer made an attempt to determine if the individual in the unmarked vehicle needed any assistance.

“The individual responded to Northside Police in a suspicious manner and did not identify themself. After determining the individual was with the BCSO, NISD Police referred the matter to the appropriate agency.”

Offiicials ask anyone who may have been stopped by the deputy on Culebra Road between midnight and 12:30 a.m. to call 210-335-5124 or email [email protected].
