Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirms Manuel Neuer has club’s full support

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has the backing of everyone inside the club, sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has said.

The Germany World Cup winner was left furious last week when details regarding contract talks with the club were leaked, and fuelled speculation that the 34-year-old would leave the Bundesliga champions, with Chelsea interested in his services.

But while admitting that there had been no resolution to negotiations over a new deal at the Allianz Arena for Neuer, Salihamidzic did confirm that the situation that left the 92-time capped Germany international fuming has been internally resolved.

‘Manuel knows that we really appreciate him,’ the director told Welt Am Sonntag

‘We have clarified the position internally, and since nothing else has become known since then, I assume that we can move on.

‘I played with Oliver Kahn. I know how much a world-class goalkeeper gives to a team. Manuel is a world-class goalkeeper. He is highly valued in our club so I hope that we can extend our contract with Manuel.’

Salihamidzic also confirmed that Neuer will remain first-choice goalkeeper next season in spite of the arrival of Schalke keeper Alexander Nubel following the end of the current campaign.

‘Manuel Neuer is our clear number one, nothing will change in the coming season. Alexander Nubel knows that.’

The sporting director also announced the club’s desire to bring in top international talent in the transfer window, but insisted he will refuse to be held to ransom over the price of players.

‘We want to strengthen ourselves with a top talent from Europe and also bring an international star to Munich, someone who enhances the quality of our team and helps the team to offer our fans strong and attractive football.

‘I and everyone with us stand for the fact that we want to win the Champions League – without becoming economically unreasonable.’
