Arsenal are keen to bring in at least one central forward this summer and Manchester City‘s Jesus, who worked with Arteta at the Etihad, emerging as a contender.

‘We like the project – it’s a possibility we’re discussing. There are six more clubs interested in Gabriel. He’s focused on the final games with Man City; we’ll see.’

Arteta refused to fuel the growing talk about an Arsenal move for Jesus, saying: ‘You know I don’t talk about any players that are not with us.

‘I am looking for the strikers that we have in the team, and this is my focus. We have three games to go and that’s the only thing I am focusing on.’

Jesus’ position at the Etihad has come under threat following the completion of Erling Haaland’s £51million deal to City.

The Brazilian striker has already had to be patient and bide his time as Guardiola juggles a host of attacking stars. The Borussia Dortmund striker’s summer arrival will limit the 25-year-old’s game time.

The Gunners are looking for attacking reinforcements after failing to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following his sour exit to Barcelona in January.

Arsenal will be hoping they can attract plenty of high-profile names by having the lure of Champions League football next season.

Beat north London enemies Tottenham on Thursday and they will guarantee their place at Europe’s top table.
