Andy Cole Ranks City, Liverpool And Chelsea As Favourites To Sign 120M Bundesliga Ace Ahead Of United

Ex-Manchester United striker Andy Cole thinks his former club may be left disappointed in their attempts to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland this summer.

The 20-year-old is being pursued by a number of teams and Cole feels that the likes of Manchester City may well prove to be more attractive to the Norwegian than United:

“To get these guys to come, Haaland for instance, you’ve got to entice them with something. You’ve got to entice them with the possibility of winning silverware or being a year away from it. These guys are going to have other options, possibly Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, maybe Barcelona. If you’re playing and have the option of all these clubs, where would United really figure at this moment in time?”

“Even though I love United, I don’t think the club now can ride on its name alone, especially when you’re trying to bring these players in. It’s not like when I signed for United. We have to be brutally honest, back then everybody wanted to go there. We’re talking 2021 now. Does everyone want to go to United now? I’m not quite sure everyone wants to now.”

You would have to think that City would be favourites for Haaland’s signature if money wasn’t taken into consideration. Pep Guardiola’s side could well end up winning four trophies this season and there is no better place for the striker to lift silverware.

On top of the fact that his father, Alf Inge, used to play for the Citizens, the Etihad would be the likeliest destination for the player. However, his agent Mino Raiola may see things differently.

The Dutchman does not see eye to eye with Guardiola, while Borussia Dortmund’s reported £120m asking price may also prove problematic.
