Alvin Gentry: Manu will be driving to the basket when he’s in his casket
Manu gonna Manu.
Last night’s loss to the New Orleans Pelicans won’t bring many smiles to the faces of Spurs fans, but it was an enjoyable game to watch nonetheless (until the final few moments), and a big reason for that was Manu Ginobili. Win or lose, every Manu Moment is special, especially since we never know which will be our last.
However, if Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry has anything to say about it, Manu will be having those moments longer than even you or I can comprehend:
Alvin Gentry on Manu: “Ginobili, he’ll be trying to drive it to the basket when he is in his casket, that’s just who he is. I don’t know if there has been another guy in this league that’s more competitive than he is.” #Spurs

While a tad creepy, it’s quite the compliment. Ginobili has always had a competitive edge that no one else could match. In his prime, that often meant turning games completely on their heads all by himself. Even at 40-years-old with his team down three starters, that competitiveness almost got the Spurs over the hump last night as well.
Here are just a few examples of what Gentry was referring to as Ginobili outclassed his all-world center Anthony Davis more than once:

Oh, Manu, how’d you get so awesome. (Also, how you stay so awesome?) #StillManu pic.twitter.com/BW2DL3gmlf
