Adam Silver says NBA expansion is “inevitable at some point”

And Seattle will be on “a short list of cities.”

If you speak to any longtime NBA fan about the Seattle Supersonics, regardless of the team their support, you might see a tear coming down that person’s face. Everyone and their mother loves the Sonics, and you don’t need to be from Seattle to be angry at the people who made the change to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

For many years we’ve been hearing rumors about the league making a return to one of its most iconic cities when any team threatens to leave a certain market, but it’s been nothing more than rumors. Until now.

Commissioner Adam Silver gave another one of his yearly interviews to Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum on The Players’ Tribune, and he was asked about the possibility of a Seattle comeback. His answer was quite encouraging:

“It’s a question of when the right time is to seriously start thinking about expansion. It’s inevitable that at some point we’ll start looking at growth of franchises. And Seattle will, no doubt, be on a short list of cities we’ll look at.”

How that would impact the Spurs remains to be seen, but as that “some point” approaches, we, and Sonics fans, will keep waiting.
