49ers sign All-Pro LB Fred Warner to record five-year, $95 million extension

The San Francisco 49ers have locked up Fred Warner.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Niners are signing the All-Pro linebacker to a five-year, $95 million deal with $40.5 million guaranteed.

The $19 million per year average makes Warner the highest-paid inside linebacker in the NFL. According to Spotrac, Seattle Seahawks’ Bobby Wagner was previously the highest-paid ILB at $18 million per year.

In his three seasons with the 49ers, Warner has proven to be one of the best linebackers in the NFL, earning his first All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections last season. The 24-year-old has recorded 367 tackles, four sacks, 21 passes defended, three interceptions, a touchdown and five forced fumbles through his three NFL seasons.

Warner told reporters in May that he wanted to be a “Niner for life.” His new contract makes that a possibility.
