Young Red gets Klopp’s pick in Big Red LFC Design competition

Eight-year-old Liverpool fanatic Daniel, from Coppull in Lancashire, has been crowned the winner of the LFC Foundation’s Big Red LFC Design Competition.

Earlier this month, the club’s official charity called upon youngsters and their families to get creative during lockdown to help design a special charity collection in aid of the LFC Foundation and NHS Charities Together.

Hundreds of young Reds entered the competition by painting, colouring and sketching unique designs in hope of being featured on the special product range of club merchandise.

Competition winner Daniel will now see his winning design feature across a range of T-shirts, mugs, keyrings – with all profits from the collection being donated to NHS Charities Together (registered charity 1186569), as well as supporting the LFC Foundation’s response and recovery work during the pandemic and over the coming months.

LFC first-team manager Jürgen Klopp and captain Jordan Henderson were both part of the judging panel which selected Daniel’s design – impressed by the youngster’s creative skills and timely reminder that ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

Daniel said: “It was amazing when I found out I had won! I feel really lucky that my design has been chosen. I’m so happy that Jordan Henderson and Jürgen Klopp chose my piece – I can’t believe it.”

The youngster will receive a range of his uniquely-designed club merchandise, a signed LFC home shirt and a complimentary hospitality experience for the rescheduled LFC Legends vs Barça Legends charity match.

Helen, Daniel’s mother, added: “Daniel has put lots of time and effort into drawing and colouring his design – he was so excited to find out he had won and that Jürgen and Jordan had liked it. He can’t wait to see his design on a T-shirt. We’re proud it’s helping the NHS during this difficult time.”

Matt Parish, director of the LFC Foundation, said: “Throughout these challenging times, it’s great to see so many families rally together in aid of such a special cause.

“We hope the money raised from the collection will go some way to helping NHS Charities Together throughout this global pandemic, while also helping to support the LFC Foundation’s local community COVID-19 response.

“Thank you to everyone who took part and congratulations to Daniel for his wonderful design.”
