Yaya Toure slammed by raging Botafago chief after he agreed to join Brazilian side

Yaya Toure has been slammed by Botafogo chief Ricardo Rotenberg after the Ivorian seemingly agreed to join the Brazilian side before signing with Vasco de Gama instead.

Rotenberg, vice-chairman of Botafogo, of Brazil‘s Serie A, was under the impression he had the former Manchester City star’s word after the pair held talks over moving to the club.

However, Toure has since committed to a deal to sign for Vasco, Botafogo’s rivals in Brazil, leaving Rotenberg aghast.

The 37-year-old had decided to prolong his career for one more season after leaving Chinese side Qingdao Huanghai six months ago.

Toure had opted to play a final season, delaying the start of his coaching career, and had reportedly held talks with Botafago over joining them.

To their surprise, the Premier League, La Liga and Champions League winner later joined Vasco, after a lawyer – Luiz Roberto Leven Siano – enlisted him in his campaign to become the club’s next president.

The Ivorian also appeared on Siano’s Instagram page, in which he said: ‘I want to thank Leven for including me in this project.

‘I can hardly wait to see all the Vasco fans very soon. It is going to be Vasco.’

Rotenberg has slammed Toure for the shock move, blasting the 37-year-old’s attitude.

‘I’m disgusted. He’s a guy who’s word means nothing. He has an attitude but no character,’ he said.
