What better way to determine Manu’s best play of all time than an NCAA-style tournament?

With Manu Ginobili having officially retired from the San Antonio Spurs, there has been plenty of honor and praise being thrown his way. He was an amazing leader and teammate both on and off the court, and he brought a whole new style of play to the league that has been adopted by many basketball players since then.

So in honor of the crazy Argentinean who brought a level excitement to the Spurs court that can scarcely be matched by anyone else, I present to you The MANU Tournament: a bracketed, NCAA-style tournament where you the fans will be voting to determine The Greatest Manu Ginobili Play of All Time!

Here’s how this is going to work. With some help from our wonderful team here at Pounding the Rock, I have compiled 32 of Ginobili’s greatest plays and divided them into four brackets: Assists/Passes, Blocks, Shots, and Dunks. Each bracket consists of eight plays that have been seeded 1-8. Seeding was determined based on multiple factors, including (but not limited to) memorability, importance, impressiveness, and of course: Manu-ness.

Below is a schedule of when each round will take place.

Schedule:

  • Monday, Sept. 3 — Round 1: Assists/Passes
  • Tuesday, Sept. 4 — Round 1: Blocks
  • Wednesday, Sept. 5 — Round 1: Shots
  • Thursday, Sept. 6 — Round 1: Dunks

(Polls close on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 6:00 PM CT.)

  • Monday, Sept. 10 _ — Sweet 16: Assists /Passes
  • Tuesday, Sept. 11 — Sweet 16: Blocks
  • Wednesday, Sept. 12 — Sweet 16: Shots
  • Thursday, Sept. 13 — Sweet 16: Dunks

(Polls close on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 6:00 PM CT.)

  • Monday, Sept. 17 — Elite 8

(Polls close on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 8:00 PM CT)

  • Thursday, Sept. 20 — Final Four

(Polls close on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 6:00 PM CT.)

  • Monday, Sept. 24 — Finals!

(Poll closes on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 8:00 PM CT.)

Finally, on Thursday Sept. 27 we will crown the champion! This promises to be a lot of fun, so be sure to come vote each time!

But first, a little bonus poll. Because a lot of what makes Manu who he is includes what happens while the clock isn’t ticking, how about determining his best non-action moment? I present to you: “The Bat” vs. “The Cup”.

The Bat

The Cup

Vote below, and remember to come back on Monday for the official start of The MANU Tournament!
